THE OWU MONTHLY

Welcome to the July OWU monthly newsletter. I trust all of you are well and immersed in 2022, as we flow into the second half of the year.

We have had two terms of growth and development at the Open Window University. Like all newly established institutions, we continue to learn and adapt to the challenges we face as our student numbers and staff body grow. It is, however, a great challenge to have, and we celebrate the community that is slowly being established at OWU — one that hopefully extends beyond the confines of the campus. We aspire to be
a beacon for culture and creativity for the whole creative arts community within Lusaka and Zambia.

An example of this is a wonderful collaboration we recently enjoyed with the
Alliance Francaise and IFAS, affording us the opportunity to host a season of French Cinema on our campus. It was an activity open to the public, with a lively debate facilitated by our lecturers after each screening.

As we prepare to conclude the first half of the year, amidst the throes of end of term activity, we take a moment to consider upcoming plans and initiatives.

First and foremost is the introduction of our
MA Creative Arts by dissertation that will unroll this coming October. We are particularly proud of this offering, especially because we took great pains to provide both a pure academic pathway, as well as a rigorous practical pathway for postgrad students that want to investigate and hone their craft further.

We are also happy to announce that
we have expanded our campus to include the adjacent property on 16 Middleway Street. It’s a building in the same style as our present campus which allows for effortless expansion, creating more classrooms, studios and, hopefully, in the near future, a student/public zone with its own coffee shop, bookshop, print shop and outdoor theatre/screening area. Renovations have already begun and will continue over the course of term three, with the wall between the two properties coming down as soon as we are ready. Later in the year, we aim to move the main entrance of the campus to Middleway street as there is more parking available on that front. We will keep you updated on developments!

All in all, these are exciting times for the Open Window University, and we are delighted to be on this journey with you. We thank you for your ongoing commitment!

EVENTS HELD IN JUNE

Educators Brunch In June, Open Window University hosted various schools in and around Lusaka for an Educators Brunch. The creative arts were explored using theory and practical exercises in film. It was a beautiful event with all educators working to unlock their creative mindsets. Yet another successful event where we educate and empower our creative leaders!

EVENTS HELD IN JULY

Annual Poetry Night

Our Annual Poetry Night took place on 1 July 2022 at our extended campus. It was nothing short of a meaningful evening with multiple talented individuals who shared their creativity through metrical composition. Every participant was unique in their poetic delivery, from gestures to confidence, poise to humour. Truly a night to remember.

Anyone is welcome to visit our campus to get a feel for the home of the creative arts. We look forward to hosting you!

Zambian International Trade Fair (ZITF) | 29 June – 5 July

Open Window University had the opportunity to exhibit at the Zambian International Trade Fair, held in Ndola. Busy interactions were had with scholars, creative industry professionals and corporate and government entities. Much interest to study with us was expressed, and with the August intake fast approaching, we look forward to Ndola and surrounding residents joining us for our online courses!

Thank you to everyone that visited our stand. Everyone has a story and we are glad to have been a part of your life journey. We hope to continue that journey with you towards a certificate, a degree and creative change. To the city of Ndola, thank you for hosting us.

Marketing Programmes Info Evening

Open Window University has introduced two sought-after marketing programmes to complement our creative offering.

Students who would like to pursue a career in marketing, advertising or communications can enrol now for a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in Marketing Management Science. Professionals, who have already obtained a degree in marketing, communications or journalism, can level up their careers by enrolling for a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Marketing.

We will host an information evening on Friday 12 August 2022 from 18:00 – 19:00. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to get in-depth information about the industry and the programmes. Please book your space on our website.
